There is a problem with indoor plants that as they do not get direct sunlight so they often lack the amount of heat they actually need. A temperature inside homes is often not supposed to be very right for the proper growth of plants.

No matter if you are sowing a seed or keeping a warm-loving plant in your home you need you provide it with the required warmth in order to help it thrive properly. Always remember that the soil temperature will be lower than what is maintained in surroundings. Soil is always cooler than surrounding air temperature and actually the roots are the parts of plant that need the heat most. When you ensure that the proper heat and warmth is provided to the plant as required this allows them grow healthy and strong. Take the following steps to provide required heat to your plants and seeds.

•    Get the seedling heat mats from the seed suppliers or garden stores and place your seedling trays over it. Mostly you’ll need to put the plants on the heat mat once they’ve sprouted while there are few plants like of pepper and other heat-loving vegetables that need bottom heat to germinate.

•    You will have to set the temperature of the mat according to the required temperature mentioned on the seed packet. If there is not temperature mentioned than generally the plants require the temperature from 70 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit. You will need to leave your heat mat on for 24 hours a day to help seeds grow till the time they are ready to be planted outside or in the permanent pots.

•    Heat mats can also be used for established indoor plants for as they need heat in day time. You can set the temperature at 70 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit or look out for the information given on plant tag about required temperature if any. Do turn the mat off at night because at this time plants are requiring a relatively lower temperature.

•    When using heat mats you will need to check the moisture level of the containers or the flower pot every two to three days. Because the heat mats placed at the bottom of containers dries the soil quickly as compared to in normal conditions. So keep watering the plant as required to maintain the required moisture in soil.

•    Take care of one more thing that do not use the heat lamps because they may cause the plants to become dry and may burn the foliage too. If it is used by you than be sure that leave it on for hardly 2 to 3 hours a day and not more than that and even for this less time you will need to take care of moisture of plants and keep misting the plant regularly to maintain the humidity.
